JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The Graduate/Clinical Dental Assistant provides chairside surgical dental assistance for faculty in the Department of Faculty Practice in the College Dentistry. This position performs administrative front desk tasks in a dental school environment.
Responsibilities
- Prepares for clinical encounters with room turnover, preparation of instruments, and acquisition of appropriate supplies for surgical procedures
- Provides chairside clinical support throughout the procedure, including, as needed, documentation within the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
- Counsel patients following surgical procedures and explain instructions as outlined for treatment by the doctor.
- Takes x-rays; exposes and processes x-ray film or process of digital images.
- Ensures working area, instruments, and equipment meet OSHA sterilization regulations.
- Performs preventive equipment maintenance and routine maintenance.
- Ensures emergency crash kit is properly stocked and prepared for use.
- Maintains necessary inventory of supplies and equipment.
- Assists with scheduling of patients, appointment reminders, or patient outreach
- Assists with billing/coding under the direction of the supervising provider.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION: High School Diploma or GED. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)
EXPERIENCE: No experience required (Graduate Dental Assistant); OR one (1) year experience working chairside in a dental practice (Clinical Dental Assistant). Must maintain registration as a licensed dental assistant in the State of Tennessee. Nitrous Oxide Monitoring and Radiology Certification required. (PROOF OF LICENSURE IS REQUIRED).
LICENSE/CERTIFICATION: A Registered Dental Assistant (RDA) in the State of Tennessee, with certification in radiology and nitrous oxide monitoring is required. (PROOF OF LICENSURE IS REQUIRED)
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:
- Ability to work efficiently in a clinical setting.
