JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: The Clinical Dental Assistant Manager supervises and oversees dental assistant employees providing chairside assisting services during dental treatment procedures to faculty, doctoral dental students, and post-doctoral students in a pre-doctoral clinic.


Responsibilities
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Coordinates daily assignments for clinical dental assistants (CDA) to ensure efficient clinical operations and completion of required duties; ensures dental assistants are cross-trained and function effectively in required areas of pre-doctoral clinic.
  2. Facilitate communications among dental assistants and faculty regarding procedures, changes, clarifications, and distribution of pertinent materials.
  3. Assists in the recruitment, screening, hiring, orientation, and training of CDAs working in the pre-doctoral clinic; counsels and disciplines employees when necessary.
  4. Maintains and accounts for all assigned employees on and off schedules and submits bi-weekly timesheets for all CDAs in the pre-doctoral clinic.
  5. Provides instructions and guidance to dental assistant externs from TCAT and Delta Technical School.
  6. Ensures equipment, instruments, and operatories are cleaned and sterilized according to infection control and OSHA/TOSHA compliance guidelines.
  7. Collaborates with Procurement Managers and admins to order uniforms for CDAs in all departments.
  8. Ensures confidentiality of patient information and compliance with UTHSC/CoD policies and procedures including HIPAA.
  9. Participates as a presenter/speaker in yearly orientation for incoming third-year dental students that will be operating, working, and functioning in the pre-doctoral clinic.
  10. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION: Bachelor's Degree (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)

EXPERIENCE: Four (4) years of related supervisory experience; OR a combination of education and related work experience to equal eight (8) years.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills; demonstrated professionalism.
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively.
  • Experience working chairside as a dental assistant.
  • Ability to supervise and manage clinical dental assistants.
  • Ability to work in a team setting and demonstrate team-oriented values.


WORK SCHEDULE: This position may occasionally be required to work weekends.
